Kerbside recycling made easier

Earlier this year, the Ministry for the Environment made it easier for everyone to recycle right no matter where they live in Aotearoa New Zealand by standardising kerbside recycling across the country.  

In Queenstown Lakes district, that means more items are now accepted in your yellow bin for recycling. 

In your yellow mixed recycling bin, you can recycle the following items:  

• Clean plastic bottles, trays and containers marked ♳, ♴ and ♷. This now includes meat trays, punnets, and coloured bottles (like L&P).
• Clean aluminium and steel cans  
• Clean paper and cardboard. This now includes pizza boxes free from grease and food.

There is no change for recycling glass, but only clean glass bottles and jars used for food and drink go in your blue recycling bin.  

Remember, just because an item is not accepted for recycling at kerbside, does not mean it cannot be recycled at all. Residents can collect updated Recycle with Care brochures and bin lid stickers from QLDC’s Ardmore St office and QLDC Gorge Rd office, as well as libraries throughout the district.
