  • The development of the 2025–2028 Climate & Biodiversity Plan (CBP) is well underway with guidance and support from our Climate Reference Group.

Engagement with key partner organisations and stakeholders has identified a broad range of opportunities that we’re reviewing and refining into a draft plan.

Early recommendations for the new CBP include:

    • Strengthening partnerships – highlighting the vital role of local organisations and accelerating change through more collaborative, partnered delivery.
    • Placing the natural environment at the heart of the plan – reflecting our deep commitment to restoring and protecting the mauri (life force) of Te Taiao.
    • Introducing ‘Energy’ as a new outcome area – recognising the significant opportunities to transform our local energy system.

The plan will undergo further review by the Climate Reference Group and partners before being discussed in a Councillor workshop in March. A draft version will then be presented to the Council in late April, before being shared with the community for feedback a little later in the year.

This is a pivotal moment for climate action in Queenstown Lakes. Stay engaged, stay informed, and be part of the change.

In the meantime, you can stay up to date on our progress to deliver the current CBP at climateaction.qldc.govt.nz
