  • Jim Salinger
  • Dr Jim Salinger is a climate scientist of international repute, the first to uncover climate warming in New Zealand region in the 1970s. He contributed to the Nobel Peace Prize (2007) together with Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) colleagues for ground-breaking work on climate change. He was recently awarded the Jubilee Medal, premier award from the for New Zealand Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Science for lifetime achievements in climate and agricultural science.

"I have always been passionate about the climate issues, and after New Zealand's climate moments in January and February 2023, and as such I feel the need to be a good ancestor and guardian for future generations in the Queenstown-Lakes District. As such we must adopt climate-resilient development which integrates smart adaptation measures with mitigation to advance sustainable development for all. Community resilience is not just about responding to disasters, but also about building sustainable communities that can thrive in the face of the climate crisis, and I see my role on the CRG is progressing towards that goal."
