Council's carbon reduction efforts officially certified

Toitū-certified organisations are required to measure their carbon emissions to international standards and provide evidence of reduction efforts to stay on the programme.

Each year Toitū undertakes audits to verify carbon emissions data and assess progress toward an Emissions Reduction Plan (ERP). The ERP identifies emission reduction opportunities such as converting the public swimming pools’ LPG heating systems and implementing building energy efficiency improvements. It also explores opportunities for solar power installations, converting more of our vehicle fleet to electric, and improving water demand management and wastewater efficiencies.

We completed our most recent audit in January. The results from this will help track progress toward our target of reducing emissions by 44% by 2030.
